Tourism Grant WritingIn 1790, the Saint Charles community was centered around their first catholic church, Borromeo. This is the church attended by Lewis and Clark before they set off on their expedition in 1804 and is where the first residents of Saint Charles planned their community and worked to make the City what it is today.

Destination Services volunteered its efforts to work with an organization known as the Joint Quest for History to authentically reconstruct this church on the exact location of the original church within the Saint Charles Historic District. The donation of a land lease for the site was negotiated and building materials for the church were secured. Both the City of Saint Charles and the current Borromeo Church were recruited for the project funding. The church reconstruction was initiated and managed by a Destination Services team member. The church was completed in the Fall of 2008.
